When should puppies be vaccinated?

The general consensus among veterinary professionals is that puppies receive their first round of core vaccines at around 8-weeks-old. Then they should get booster injections every 4 weeks. Your pet’s “puppy” vaccines are usually completed by the time they are 6-months-old. Usually, you can expect your puppy to be immunized during their first ever visit to the vet.

What vaccines do puppies need?

As you may already know, vaccines are divided into two main groups: core or non-core vaccines. During this phase of life, your puppy will need to receive the mandatory (core) vaccines that protect them against the most common diseases that affect canines. These include the rabies, canine parvovirus, canine distemper and canine hepatitis vaccine injections.

Vaccinations for Dogs

Congratulations! Your puppy has fully grown into an adult dog with a personality all their own. We can’t express how much joy and pride this brings to our team. As they enter a new stage of life, we want to keep them protected and build on the immunity we established when they were puppies. Making sure they continue to be immunized is one of the easiest ways to keep them healthy in the years to come. Call us to learn more about which options will work best for your pet.

What vaccines do dogs need?

Your pet still needs to receive their core set of vaccines, particularly the rabies one as it is required by law. They will need to receive injections at least once every three years for these vaccines. Now, depending on your lifestyle, additional vaccines may be recommended by your veterinarian – these are the non-core vaccines that we mentioned previously. During your pet’s regular check-ups, we can assess which options will work best for their unique situation. For example, hunting or sporting dogs may need a different set of vaccines compared with dogs who spend most of their time indoors. Note: ALL dogs, no matter their lifestyle needs to be regularly immunized.
