That saying ‘you are what you eat’ also applies to your furry family member. Due to the wide variety of species and breeds, it can be confusing to figure out the most appropriate diet for your pet. In addition, your pet may have different dietary needs depending on their age, as well as any medical conditions they may have. With the help of our veterinary team, you can take the guesswork out of your pet’s diet. Call us at 403-239-4657 to schedule a nutrition counselling appointment, and to learn more about how we can help your pet acquire the most optimal diet.

What happens during a nutrition counselling session for pets?

You will have a chance to speak with your veterinarian about your pet’s current diet and feeding routine. Your pet will be examined and any specific allergies may also be identified after some possible testing. After this, a customized diet plan will be created for your furry friend’s specific situation. Recommendations on portion sizes, feeding schedules, formulations to try and some raw/cooked food remedies will also be provided to you.

Is it safe to feed my pet human food?

Theoretically, yes. Although we advise you to proceed with caution because there are dozens of human foods that are toxic and even lethal for your pet. The best thing to do is ask our team before feeding your pet anything that you are unsure about in terms of safety.

What are the benefits of nutritional counselling for pets?

All pets of all ages and health statutes can benefit greatly from nutritional counselling. It is the equivalent of having a personal diet coach for us humans. The most common effects our clients see in their pets are reduced obesity, healthier coat/skin, increased energy, relief of allergy symptoms, better-smelling breath and longer life.
